Culture & Values

Apex embraces the values of diversity, equity, shared prosperity, and sustainability in authentic and meaningful ways. Apex is the only Minority-owned Business Enterprise (MBE) licensed in both Oregon and Washington. We consider diversity to be of paramount importance and a foundational value. We recognize that a diverse workplace increases creativity and innovation, and in turn, contributes to greater economic and social equity within our community.

Historically, the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) industry has been male-dominated with few opportunities for women and minorities. Although considerable efforts have been made industry-wide, there is still much work to be done to advance opportunities for diversity and equity in the commercial real estate workforce. At Apex, 40% of our team represents minorities and women. Apex has also received the Certification Office for Business Inclusion and Diversity (COBID) distinction through Business Oregon and holds an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) certification from the City of Portland.

Apex is also Just. certified. Just. is a nutrition label for socially just and equitable organizations. It is a transparency platform for organizations to disclose their operations, including how they treat their employees and where they make financial and community investments. We are proud of our accomplishments and will continue to push for diversity and equality in our community.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, shared prosperity, and sustainability separates us from the competition and reflects our community-driven values.

Shared Prosperity

At Apex, we embrace the values of honesty, hard work, ethics, collaboration, and a culture that is aligned to the importance of shared prosperity within the greater community. We recognize the historical injustices that have occurred within our region and nationally, manifested through economic, social, cultural, gender and racial disparities.

With deep ties to our community, we are committed to advancing social equity through a shared prosperity mindset by working with local, minority and women owned businesses, and in our support of local non-profits. We believe that shared prosperity is a mutual responsibility, where public and private comes together with a collective commitment: civic, community, businesses, and philanthropy to leverage opportunities for women, people of color and other underrepresented and disenfranchised populations to thrive. Here at Apex, it is both a social and community value.

By working with local firms, we are supporting our community and stimulating the local economy. When you work with Apex, you will also be supporting the local, minority and women owned business with whom we collaborate, and contributing to the local economy. And within Apex, unlike the competing national firms, 100% of our revenue stays within the region. We believe that these factors distinguish us from the competition and reinforces our commitment to the enrichment of the communities in which we live and work.

Community Engagement

Our city succeeds only when our community succeeds. Apex embraces the values of community engagement which ranges from board service on local non-profits, to pro bono work with educational and cultural institutions, as well as the support and participation of city-wide social service initiatives and campaigns. We also serve as informal advisors to city-wide initiatives and development projects. As a local business, we are active participants in the community. We embody the values, embrace the challenges, and share in the success of our communities with an inclusive perspective that reinforces our commitment to shared prosperity, and sustainability as an economic, social, and environmental responsibility.

Sustainability

Sustainability, as defined across the three main pillars of economic, social, and environmental responsibility are at the core of our business operations.  Apex has been recognized with a Work Gold Certification in recognition of our company practices and policies that create a positive impact on our environment and community.

As well, reflecting the values of environmental responsibility so revered in the Pacific Northwest, Apex continually strives to improve the urban landscape in our real estate partnerships. We have been involved in the two largest “Net Zero” real estate development projects in North America; the Bullitt Center in Seattle, WA – the greenest commercial building in the world, and the PAE Living Building in Portland, OR – the largest mixed-use living building in the world. Apex also has a proven track record in working with many developers and tenants in achieving LEED Platinum, Gold, Silver, and other sustainability certifications.
